Typical challenges

Many environments grow out of shell scripts, manual runbooks and isolated CI jobs. Changes work, but they are hard to trace, difficult to test and often tied to individual people.

A reliable automation stack therefore separates target infrastructure, system configuration, central orchestration and Kubernetes delivery. Not every organization needs every component, but every project needs clear boundaries between them.

Separate enterprise and open source deliberately

The right choice depends on governance, support, team size and operating responsibility.

Open-source operations

Ansible, AWX, OpenTofu and Argo CD can start lean, but need clear standards for updates, backup, secrets and permissions.

Enterprise automation

AAP is useful when governance, support, execution environments, central content and team boundaries become business-critical.

GitOps for Kubernetes

Argo CD belongs in Kubernetes and OpenShift delivery models, but it does not replace a CI pipeline.
