We are pleased to announce another important step in the expansion of our open-source portfolio: ForgeOne has been an official OpenProject Solution Partner since August 2026.
With this partnership, we are deepening our collaboration with OpenProject and expanding our offering of open and professionally operated platforms for businesses to include project management.
OpenProject is not a new technology for us. We have been working intensively with the platform and its use in professional enterprise environments for some time. The official Solution Partnership is therefore the logical next step for us.
What is OpenProject?
OpenProject is an open-source platform for project management and collaboration. It helps teams plan, manage, and transparently track projects in one central platform.
The platform supports a wide range of project management methods and requirements. These include traditional project planning, task and work package management, roadmaps, Gantt charts, as well as agile workflows using boards. Project-related collaboration and documentation can also be managed centrally.
This makes OpenProject suitable for traditional, agile, and hybrid project environments.
One aspect that is particularly important to us is the platform’s openness. OpenProject provides organizations with an alternative to proprietary project management solutions while allowing them to choose different deployment models depending on their requirements.
OpenProject Enterprise for professional environments
Our partnership covers OpenProject Enterprise and its various deployment models.
Depending on an organization’s requirements, OpenProject Enterprise can be deployed in different ways:
- as OpenProject Enterprise Cloud,
- on-premises within the organization’s own infrastructure,
- or in an environment hosted by a partner or third party.
This flexibility fits well with our approach at ForgeOne. We do not want to dictate where a platform has to run. What matters are the individual requirements regarding operations, integration, security, data control, and existing infrastructure.
What does the Solution Partnership mean for our customers?
The partnership is designed as a long-term commercial and technical collaboration between OpenProject and ForgeOne. The shared goal is to create value for customers while strengthening the open-source ecosystem.
As an OpenProject Solution Partner, we can support organizations around OpenProject Enterprise and integrate the platform into existing IT environments.
We do not look at the software in isolation. For sustainable use within an organization, topics such as architecture, operations, user management, integration, migration, updates, monitoring, and support also need to be considered.
This is exactly where we see our role: integrating open-source technologies into enterprise environments in a way that creates stable and professionally operated platforms for the long term.
OpenProject as part of an open collaboration landscape
OpenProject is particularly interesting to us in combination with other platforms in our portfolio.
With grommunio, XWiki, and OpenProject, different areas of digital collaboration can be covered using open technologies:
grommunio for email, calendars, and communication, XWiki for knowledge management and documentation, and OpenProject for project and task management.
This allows organizations to gradually build their collaboration landscape on open technologies without having to cover every requirement within a single platform.
The combination of XWiki and OpenProject is particularly interesting: while XWiki provides a platform for knowledge, documentation, and structured information, OpenProject handles the planning and management of projects and tasks.
Open source as a strategic decision
For us, open source is not about replacing proprietary software as a matter of principle.
Instead, we want to give organizations the ability to consciously decide which technologies they use, where their systems are operated, and how dependent they want to be on individual vendors in the long term.
OpenProject therefore fits very well with our approach at ForgeOne: open technology combined with professional enterprise structures and flexible deployment options.
The new partnership further strengthens this direction.
